Brought to you by the guys who brought one of my favorites horror-comedies of all-time, Shaun of the Dead. I think maybe that fact right there had my hopes a bit too high, but that's not to say this film wasn't a lot of fun. It's just no Shaun of the Dead in my book.
You get more of the homages to the genre, but this time it's cop/buddy movies in the crosshairs instead of horror. There is some pretty gory violence too though, in just never gets too serious of a tone. This movie does for adrenaline-filled cop shoot-em-ups and action what S.O.T.D. did for zombies. It's very sharp and funny with a bit of slapstick humor as expected, but I thought it drug on a bit long and had a few comedic airballs. A lot of the comedy is delivered very deadpan, so it might depend on your mood when you watch it just how funny you think it is. For me that's usually the case with British comedy.
Lead actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are awesome together, and I'll watch anything they do from here on out.
As an action flick, it's over-the-top without being ridiculous and a very unique film. If you like films like Bad Boys II, Lethal Weapon(s) and Point Break, but would love to see them lampooned, this is your film.
7.5/10
