Made another trip to Dickey-Stephens Park on Thursday night to see the
Arkansas Traveler's game with the Corpus Christi Hooks. It was on
Clunker Car Night, which is one of the best promotions they do every year. They give away a "clunker" between innings by calling out lucky scorecard numbers and bingo card numbers. It's a whole lot of fun as they drive the cars out and tell how many hundreds of thousands of miles they have on them and how lucky you'd be to own one of the pieces of junk. The Travs got drilled by a final of 11-3, but we got to see 3 big taters and 14 total runs so it was pretty exciting at least. The funnest part was keeping up with the Cards game on our cells phones and reporting how Rick Ankiel was doing to all the Cards fans around us. When we informed them that he hit a 3-run HR, the guys next to us bought us a couple of beers. Good times.
We started the night in the a/c at Cornerstone Pub before sitting out in the 90+ degree heat, then closed it out at a pool/dart hall called Mac Daddys, which is also walking distance from the park. It ended up being one of those "close down the pub" nights and was a whole lot of fun... despite neither of us winning one of the pieces of crap cars they were giving away (nor playing darts worth a flip). Eh, maybe next year.
