A housewife (Sandra Bullock) learns her husband was killed in a car accident the day previously, then awakens the next morning to find him alive and well at home, and then awakens the next day after to a world in which he is still dead. She begins to try to unravel exactly what is going on and how she can change the future.
First off, let me say I like Sandra Bullock and always have. I think she's a great actress, and she proves it again in several scenes in this movie. Too bad she's working with such confusing material here though.
And that is the best way to describe this film I think... confusing. I never really knew why she was having these premonitions and by the end I really didn't care. Telling a story in reverse is sort of cool, like Memento for example. Re-living a day over and over like say Groundhog's Day is sort of fun too. But jumping forward a day and backwards a day and all around a week is just annoying.
I won't give away the end, but I thought the movie just tried to be some sort of spiritual message by that point instead of explaining what the hell was going on. I felt like as I was watching this that the whole illogical path we were going down was going to lead to some big twist and resolution, but it didn't. It was enjoyable for a bit to try to follow along and I think it could have been a pretty smartly made thriller with quite a bit of tweaking of the last 30 minutes, but sadly it's not.
Cool idea maybe if done right.
