Darkly Dreaming Dexter

Dexter Morgan is handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims.
I'm already a huge fan of the TV show Dexter that runs on Showtime, but I thought I'd give the books that gave birth to the character a shot. I'm glad I did. The first season of the show wasn't word for word from this book, although it starts out pretty closely following it.
The most interesting thing about this storyline to me is that the whole serial killer thing has been, pardon the pun, done to death. This is a fresh take on it. A killer who loathes killers, and often times loathes himself. Dexter is both smart and fun, but what he calls "The Dark Passenger" that rides along with him is a bad boy.
The writing is very lively and moves along at a nice pace, with just enough laughs and wit to make the gholish, grisly horror of the book well-balanced as the inspired mystery unfolds. Yeah, a strange combination for sure, but this isn't an ordinary character.
I found the same like for this Dexter fella that I found on the TV show, and plan on reading all these novels (there is 1 more now and another due in September... also the Showtime series starts it's 2nd season this fall).
Highly recommended... one of the most original serial killer stories in a long time.
