John McClane (Bruce Willis) takes on an Internet-based terrorist organization who is systematically shutting down the United States, while he is transporting a hacker (the Mac dude from the PC/Mac commercials) wanted for questioning.
Some day, when you look up the meaning of "over the top" in the dictionary, it will just have 2 words... Die Hard. All the action is so ridiculous and insane, all the dialog goofy and all the situations are so sensational I just have to laugh. But damn if this franchise isn't still entertaining!
Willis plays his career defining character to perfection and has surrounded himself with a really good cast here. Timothy Olyphant and Justin Long are both great, and the chemistry between Willis and Long makes me want to see these 2 work together in a film again. John McClane is old school, smashing people with everything in sight, and Long's character is more new age, a hacker who can make a cell phone into a computer or something ala McGyver.
Sure, it's just so implausible and mindless but that's sort of the fun of the movies isn't it? Lots of action, and I mean lots of action, punctuated with some great stunt work and special effects keep this movie cranking along. There are a lot of laughs too. It's a long film, but it moves really quickly.
This is what summer movies should be like... preposterous.
