Info Post

I guess maybe I just feel like talking about dogs. Or maybe just want to post a pic of my cool dog, Shakes (right). Whichever... I was reading an article from the American Kennel Club talking about their newest list of the 10 most popular purebred dogs which they announced Wednesday. Not many surprises really, but I was sort of shocked to see the Bulldog on there I guess. I like Bulldogs, but that under- bite, the cost of them (upwards of a 2 or 3 grand) and medical problem associated with their breathing seem to be too common for me to buy one. I'm an Australian Shepherd man anyway, as my last 2 dogs have been of the breed.

Here's the list:

1. Labrador Retriever (top dog since 1991)
2. Yorkshire Terrier
3. German Shepherd
4. Golden Retriever
5. Beagle
6. Boxer
7. Dachshund
8. Poodle
9. Shih Tzu
10. Bulldog

Poodles? I don't even know anybody with a poodle anymore, didn't know they were still so popular.

The only dogs I guess I'm surprised to not see on the list might be Rottweilers, as I see them everywhere anymore it seems and Cocker Spaniels still seem pretty abundant. I know of a lot of people with Lhasa Apso and Cairn Terriers too.

I think when I get another dog, it'll still not be anything on the above list. I sort of like having a dog that isn't as popular. When I meet someone with an Aussie it's more fun since not everyone has one. I'm sure my next pup will be another Aussie or maybe a Collie, I've always loved those. Possibly a Siberian Husky or a Malamute too. They're both beautiful breeds.

Anyway, hooray for Labs I guess! 17 straight years at #1. That's a lot of puppies.
