A team of U.S. government agents is sent to investigate the bombing of an American facility in the Middle East. Once there, they encounter the resistance of a Saudi government more interested in getting the Americans safely out of the country and avoiding conflict, rather than in solving the crime.
I thought this film was really like 2 films in one. First it's a political thriller with the team trying to work it's way through politics to not only determine who the bad guys are but also to catch them. The comes part two, where it turns into a bloody all-out action film. In the end it just sort of throws a message of the futility of all the violence out there for the viewer to sleep on.
I don't think it's that's smart of a movie, nor does it try to be, but it is technical enough in it's details to make it feel like a sort of CSI episode at times. Also it gets a bit gung-ho and flag-wavey (is flag-wavey a word?) but really gives the real hero role of the movie to Saudi police Colonel.
Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman are all excellent in their roles as the team of Americans and look for a small role by country crooner Tim McGraw, who I had no idea was in this.
8/10
