Movie Review: Rambo

In Thailand, John Rambo (Sly Stallone) assembles a group of mercenaries and leads them up the Salween River to a Burmese village where a group of Christian aid workers allegedly went missing.

Remember the ultra-violent opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan? That's like High School Musical compared to Sly's latest flick. Not just violence, but decapitations, flying body parts and people being liquefied by big guns. Rambo states "When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing" and man he ain't lyin. He and his group of mercenaries proceed to lay waste to another ultra-violent group of baddies with guns, arrows, knives, machetes and bombs.

It's nothing fancy, with a really simple plot and predictable actions, but I really thought the movie sort of worked. The setting and tone are great, what little emoting is done honorably, and the special effects were... well, bloody and gross.

It is what it is. It is what I wanted it to be. It's Rambo, not Casablanca. If you don't find the excessive violence nauseating, you are sure to be entertained.
